It was founded in 1991 and has 1,300 members as of 2016. The EMİB is coordinating a brand new project with the aim of establishing a cluster of natural stone exporters from the Aegean Region of Turkey. The cluster which is formed up of 25 exporters of natural stones is targeting to develop itself into a “High Efficiency & Value Added Marble Exporting Cluster’ by shifting to the production of design and values added products not only for the use in construction projects but also for the demand of the end consumers. The project aims to increase the export of architectural design stone.
Due to her location in the Alp’s mountain range, Turkey is regarded as one of the oldest and most important natural stone producers in the world, with its’ ample resources of natural stones and marble. Turkey has immense reserves of marble, travertine, onyx, conglomerate, breccias and magmatic rocks. As of 2016 with its export volume of 1.8 billion dollars Turkey ranks as the biggest exporter in the world for marble and travertine. Turkey exports mainly to U.S. and Chinese markets.
Furthermore the production of natural stones in Turkey has grown rapidly in the last decade. Large scale private companies’ investments in integrated processing plants, has resulted in transformation of the sector from “selling stones” to “providing processed products”. With the introduction of modern technologies, Turkey has become one of the world’s most prominent natural stone producers.
